Welcome to the July Newsletter

On The Farm

You are getting the July newsletter early, so that if you have a beloved animal who becomes frightened with fireworks, you will have time to take some simple steps to support them through the holiday time. See the article below for tips.

With the beginning of summer dryness (a couple of weeks with no rain), we are working hard to catch up with the gardens, the mowing, the planting beds, the trees—you get the idea. Working with cycles of nature instead of linear timing on the calendar is sometimes a challenge. However, it keeps us in the moment. We are witnesses to how our environment shifts itself to respond to the forces of nature. In the moment, in the cycle, we can better accept what is happening as a natural evolution of how things are.

Sometimes I shapeshift into a tree, just to see how it feels. I have many arboreal friends here who allow me to see through their ‘eyes’. When I’m very still in my mind, I can even hear them sing. I teach people how to do that in my shamanic classes and in the advanced animal communication classes. It took some practice—two years after my initial training/mentoring with Penelope Smith—to feel confident that I wasn’t imagining things. The songs are beautiful. The groundedness and awareness feels so good. Use your imagination and try it sometime.

I hope your holiday is joyful and safe. Get out in nature and play.

THE BOOKSHELF

For quite a few years, we have admired the handiwork of Sue Coccia, who does totem art. We were introduced to her designs through Liberty Puzzles, a company that does wooden jigsaw puzzles that are truly unique. Sue’s animal totems are so thoughtfully created and truly express the spiritual power of the animal or plant that is represented.

Sue is from the Northwest—Edmonds, Washington. She has a formal art background, however it is her deep love of all animals that sparks her work with a unique style. She started selling her art in 1996 as EarthArt International with a portion of her proceeds being donated to wildlife conservation organizations.

Her drawings are first done in pen and ink, then meticulously painted with acrylics. The drawings depict animals from around the world. The totems reflect a deep spirituality, and when we begin to understand and respect their individual qualities and strengths, we realize we are all connected.

Sue’s work may be seen at EarthArtInternational.com. I love having images of my power animals around me, or wearing a special t-shirt with one of her designs. Bring the animal beauty into your life with something special from tiles, puzzles or screen cleaners to wearable art and coloring books.

       ENJOY!

Have a peaceful Fourth of July!

As we celebrate the Fourth, it is important to provide safety and comfort to our beloved animals, primarily dogs, some of whom are terrified with the loud fireworks. There are several resources that will support them. The key is to be prepared ahead of time and then to follow up with comfort measures afterward.

For many dogs, a Thundershirt is like a big hug that they wear. Important to get a good fit—it should be snug but not restrictive. It can be ordered at thundershirt.com. A really good pet store may carry them.

Herbal ingredients may be used with guidance of a veterinarian, homeopathy practitioner, or acupuncturist. Here are some natural ingredients that may help with calming: camomilla homeopathic pills and Rescue Remedy (available at Whole Foods or health food stores); Five Flower Formula essence and Post-Trauma Stabilizer (both from the Flower Essence society - fesflowers.com). Maintaining the supplements for 24 hours is helpful. That makes sure that the animal’s system can come down from the stress load gradually and ease into normal routine.

A couple of other natural remedies are popular and easily obtained. Pheromones that calm may also be found at your pet store. CBD doses may help—check with your veterinarian to determine the dosage.

There is a new product carried by better pet stores (including Pet People)—Calming Aid chewables (think TREATS!) that contain L-Theanine that promotes relaxation, Thiamine to strengthen the immune system and help the body withstand stress, and L-Tryptophan that stabilizes mood.

Keeping the animal indoors (we put our horses in the barn to reduce stress) helps a lot. Staying with them also supports them. Taking the family somewhere where there isn’t any noise may be another option.

I hope your holiday is calm and easy.

Scholarship Fund

The students in the shamanic healing and shamanic animal communication classes are immersed in intense training that has 9 classes in the first level of healing, 6 classes in the second level, and 5 classes in the communication level. When they complete the training, they are well advanced in their healing skills, as well as in their experience with animals. Many come to the class with a background that includes shelter or rescue work. A unique feature of the shamanic animal communication and healing classes is that students work with shelter and foster animals to practice their skills. All species may be included, giving students a wide range of exposure to different energies, different animal perspectives.

Students are also on the lookout for animals newly adopted, wild, or stray animals that might be helped with communication and healing. If you have an animal that has been traumatized, perhaps a shelter animal you just adopted, you can submit a photo with name, age, sex and just a little bit about their behavior or condition to me at info@judyramsey.net. I will post the animal’s case in class or on our Facebook group and send you what the students have done with their work.

Your donation to the scholarship fund supports students who need financial aid to continue their good work with animals in their own communities. It’s easy to help—the donation button is on the website home page. If you have taken a class and enjoyed the experience, or you had a healing or communication experience with your animal friend that amazed you, please consider paying it forward by making a donation.

Thank you for supporting the cause.
